Protest

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy, instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

-MLK

There was change with Martin Luther King Jr.’s protests. He was another man that didn’t deserve to die the way that he did, with hate. Now, it seems like we’ve reached a rocky plateau. There should be harsher punishments to the evil officer that committed murder to George Floyd. It could have discouraged violent protests. I worry greatly for my friends that are officers and my friends that are black. I worry knowing that they both live in fear, just because of their uniform or skin color. It is more harsh for African Americans because they are met with so much more of a punishment for wrong-doing and sometimes not wrong-doing.

Taking power away from the police is dangerous for all of us, but their wrong doings must be met with higher penalties.

You have to keep adjusting with the times. Violence isn’t the way, but protests help. I’m scared to go to these protests but I know that just being there is enough. There are still evil people on both sides of the spectrum that just don’t get it, and there are good people that are afraid to speak up even on the side their standing by. Imagine going to a protest. Imagine thousands of people there for the same reason. Imagine being together in silence, remembering those that were innocent that we lost. And, Imagine we all realized that it brought us together. You would actually feel love, and you wouldn’t fear stepping out or even going to these protests.

Some people just don’t care, and that’s a privilege. I don't know enough to speak publicly about this, but this saddens me, greatly.
